Small, tabletop chambers need little maintenance and may go for extended periods of time without needing repairs. Larger chambers may have to have monthly or weekly calibrations and assessments. A major factor in the maintenance process is an examination of the airflow. Testing chambers are designed to place products in harsh environments they may face during use. The majority of chambers provide extreme highs and lows as well as pressure variances during the testing process. The first step in calibration is to check the validity of the temperature settings. Slight variances can distort data and give inaccurate readings.
Critical to the temperature variances is the airflow of the chamber. If the chamber is designed to provide extremely low temperatures, the cooling coils have to be clear to allow continuous airflow. Any build up or blockage will prevent them from reaching the desired temperatures. This is also true of the heating coils. As with the cooling unit, airflow has to be consistent and uninterrupted.
There are steps that users can take to ensure their testing chamber is performing properly. These are outlined in the owner’s manual with a list of performance factors to check prior to initiating use of the unit. In the final analysis, any repair issues need to be completed by a trained technician who is fluent and knowledgeable in the standards for the testing chamber.
